There are four major cross country ski clubs operating in Thunder Bay: Lappe Nordic, Big Thunder Nordic, Kamview Nordic, and Thunder Bay Nordic Trails. Together the total active cross country membership is over 2200 and growing.
Lakehead University also has a nordic team that has been very successful in national and international competitions. CLICK HERE for more information about this program.
Within a 20-40 minute drive from downtown, Thunder Bay has 100 km of Piston Bully groomed trails. The variety of terrain is excellent for training and racing. Thunder Bay ski area operators take great pride in their trail maintenance and, as a result, we enjoy some of the best tracks in Canada. NTDC athletes are welcomed at all of these sites and full season trail passes are donated at no charge to our team members. When you add in the benefits of chalets, saunas, night lighting (over 10 km) and snow making, you can be sure that there is no better place to train and develop your ski racing talents.
Sport Science Testing
Our affiliation with Lakehead University and its Kinesiology Department provides the opportunity to include all of the latest sport science technologies to assist in measuring the key indicators of fitness. As well, the natural terrain around Thunder Bay provides ample opportunity to use a series of “natural tests” using sport specific activities. Attached to our program is a physician who provides our team members access to a full range of sports medicine services, regular medical/health consultations and chiropractic services.
